How the O Shot® Is Used for Vaginal Rejuvenation
For women who struggle with a lack of sensation or low sexual desire, a new and minimally invasive procedure may be the answer. The O Shot®, which is short for “orgasm shot,” works by using a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate tissue regrowth in and around the vagina.
How does the O Shot® work?
Platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that stimulate cell regeneration. By concentrating platelet-rich plasma from a patient’s blood and directly injecting it into the area near a patient’s clitoris, this procedure stimulates the growth of new, healthy tissue.
The injection of platelet-rich plasma also draws some of the patient’s own stem cells to the area, which further encourages healthier, more responsive tissue to develop. Injecting a patient’s own plasma into a targeted area will stimulate the production of collagen, which helps to generate smoother, younger-looking skin. PRP injection will also increase vascularization of the area. Since additional blood vessels mean increased blood flow, the O Shot® will enhance sexual response.
While it takes some time for a patient to experience the full effects of the O Shot® treatment (usually, full results can be felt about three months after a treatment), some women start to notice improvements right away. Results will differ from patient to patient, but some of the improvements noticed include the following:
- Increased sexual desire
- Increased lubrication
- Increased sensation during sex
- Reduced urinary leakage for those experiencing mild incontinence
- Smoother-looking skin of the vulva
- Stronger, more frequent orgasms
While the effects of the O Shot® are not permanent, results can last up to three years. Patients can repeat the procedure eight weeks after the initial O Shot®, but on average, the treatment is repeated every 18 months.
What does the O Shot® procedure entail?
Part of the reason some patients are drawn to the O Shot® procedure is because it is simple, quick and nearly painless.
Performing a simple blood draw
First, a patient’s doctor will draw a relatively small amount of blood, usually from the patient’s arm. This is no different from a simple, routine blood draw.
Extracting platelet-rich plasma
Next, a specialized centrifuge is used to remove platelet-rich plasma from the patient’s blood.
Finally, the doctor performing the procedure will apply a numbing cream to the area around the clitoris and the upper wall of the vagina. The extracted PRP is injected here. In some cases, a patient may briefly feel a slight stinging or burning sensation. In other cases, patients report feeling no pain at all.
The entire O Shot® procedure usually takes about 20 minutes, and patients do not experience any downtime — after receiving the treatment, they can immediately go back to their regular activities. Patients may experience some redness and swelling for up to a week after the procedure.
For women looking for vaginal rejuvenation procedures that work, the O Shot® is a minimally invasive option that provides lasting results. If you think that this treatment might be right for you, be sure to schedule a consultation with a clinic offering O Shot®.
